Now that Donald Trump’s Russia scandal has taken on a life of its own and Special Counsel Robert Mueller gets closer by the day, Trump has been trying to downplay his bromance with Russian President Vladimir Putin and continues to trash the “Russian Witch Hunt” on Twitter on an almost daily basis. Unfortunately for Trump, his Russian buddy has just outed him big time.
In an interview with an Austrian journalist, Putin stated that he and Trump are still close as ever and continue to speak on the phone on a regular basis (will Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump’s other BFF, be jealous?!).
CNN reported that Putin revealed that he and the disgraced POTUS “regularly talk over the phone,” but didn’t give any details about upcoming meetings between the two leaders. Putin also addressed concerns about an “arms race” between the two countries. Putin said:
“Donald said he was worried about the possibility of a new arms race. I fully agree with him — however, to prevent a possible arms [race], we should think about it, we should do something about it, give corresponding instructions to our Foreign Ministry and the US State Department.”
The last time phone calls between Trump and Putin made headlines, Trump had called Putin in March to congratulate him on winning the election, which many thought was rigged. Trump had been advised by his staff not to make the call, but Trump couldn’t be stopped (not even with the all-caps warning they gave him).
It appears that the bromance between Trump and Putin is stronger than ever and has outlasted the bad publicity from the Russian investigation. The fact that Trump is still so close to Trump is deeply concerning and does little to ease worries that the president isn’t up to any wrongdoing.
